New york’s cultural complex at manhattan’s hudson yards, The Shed designed by Diller Scofio.

Updated: Nov 6, 2020

Energy saving and smart: While the permanent base structure alone makes the shed a champion of innovative design, it’s the structure’s telescoping outer shell on rails that really stands out. realized in 2017, the 8 million pound, six-level structure on six wheels, that measure six-feet in diameter, is an engineered system that requires just six 15-horsepower motors to expand and contract. the design was unveiled in 2011 and construction began in 2015 with the prefabrication of the steel and the motion system in italy.

Hudson Yards is a 28-acre mixed-use development on Manhattan's far West Side, bound by 34th and 30th street to the north and south, and by Tenth Avenue and the West Side Highway to the east and west.

The project is scheduled to open spring 2019.
