Modern art from Spain shines in the United States

The Meadows Museum is the most important institution in the United States dedicated to the study and presentation of the art of Spain.

In 1962, Dallas businessman and philanthropist Algur H. Meadows donated his private collection of Spanish paintings to Southern Methodist University, along with funds to establish a museum.

The museum opened to the public in 1965 and was the first step in fulfilling Meadows' dream of creating "a little Prado in Texas."

Today, the Meadows houses one of the most comprehensive collections of Spanish art outside of Spain, spanning from the 10th to the 21st century.

The museum's primary collection contains works by renowned painters including El Greco, Velázquez, Ribera, Murillo, Goya, Miró, Sorolla, Dalí and Picasso

Since 2010, the Texan museum has had a partnership with the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid, which includes the exchange of knowledge, exhibitions, works of art and other resources.
